CEPSA SITE VISIT in Montreal East

Tuesday September 20th, 2011

As part of activities from ISA Montreal, we are organizing a visit of the CEPSA plant in Montreal East on Tuesday September 20th, 2011. This large chemical plant produces Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), the raw material used in making different types of polyester for the manufacturing of textile fibers, powder paints, PET bottles and containers, etc. It has a modern DCS control system by Emerson's - DeltaV with a variety of process equipment including a rotating kiln and different type of reactors.

The ISA Montreal Section in collaboration with Vanier College will be offering a practical 15 hr workshop that will provide hands-on training in the field of instrumentation and automation, suitable for practitioners already working in the field and for those just starting in the field.

This three-evening and one practical hands-on Saturday workshop is an exciting and practical way to experience instrumentation and automation, such as process control and PID tuning, as well as PLC programming and pneumatic automation.

March 17th (Thursday), 18th (Friday), and 21st (Monday) Nights from 6:00-9:00pm, and March 19th (Saturday) from 9:00am till 4:00pm

What is automation and process control? Terms, concepts, diagrams and symbols

The PID controller: its purpose and function. PID control in industrial applications.

Temperature, pressure, level and flow concepts, measurement and control.

PID tuning techniques and procedures.

PLC control: input-output devices; Latching and sequencing.

Application of a PLC in automating motor control and pneumatic systems. Write, test, and verify a typical PLC program.

Converting a relay control system to a PLC controlled system.

Troubleshooting instrumentation loops.

Overview of HMI, SCADA, and DCS systems.
